East Hill Photo Tour: Parks, Landmarks and Heritage Homes

We walked East Hill on a sunny fall afternoon in October 2026 with our featured local expert, Tim Jones, and photographed the parks, corner spots and heritage homes that make the neighbourhood special. Tap any photo to open it full size and swipe through the set.

Quick answer: East Hill has a circular neighbourhood green (Crescent Park), a big family park (Lakeview Park, with a wading pool, splash pad, playground and three ball diamonds), quieter pocket parks like Pine Park and Wenger Park, a classic corner store, an elementary school, and some of Vernon's best heritage homes, all within a few blocks of each other.

Crescent Park, 28th Crescent

One of East Hill's prettiest little pockets is 28th Crescent, a ring of homes built around a big, round green space called Crescent Park.

Lakeview Park, 3001 18th Street

Lakeview Park is East Hill's main gathering place. According to the City of Vernon, it has the "Peanut Pool" wading pool and splash pad, a playground, three baseball diamonds and washrooms. Public swims are free; check the City's schedule for seasonal hours. When we visited in October, the pool was drained for the season, the leaves were turning, and the giant Muskoka chairs were still out.

Right across 32nd Avenue are two of East Hill's landmark homes, the S.C. "Sawdust" Smith House (now the Vernon Community Music School) and the T.E. Crowell House.

The view down 30th Avenue

From the top of 30th Avenue, the street drops straight down the hill toward downtown Vernon. It's one of the best places to understand why people love East Hill: you're close enough to walk downtown, but high enough to look out over it. At the top of the hill stands Campbell House, built in 1898.

Heritage homes on the walk

These three homes all carry City of Vernon heritage plaques you can read from the sidewalk. Read their full stories on our Character Homes page.

Pine Park, 1605A 39A Avenue

A small neighbourhood park tucked in among tall ponderosa pines, with a playground and plenty of shade. The City's signs note that dogs aren't allowed here, so it's a nice spot for little ones.

Wenger Park, 3009 11th Street

Higher up the hill, Wenger Park is a neighbourhood playground with a grassy slope and a bright play structure.

Newer homes and infill

East Hill isn't only older homes. There are newer pockets with views across the valley, and under B.C.'s newer housing rules, more East Hill lots can now add a second home on the property.

Corner store and school

Lakeview Market at 1501 32nd Avenue is the neighbourhood's corner store. Silver Star Elementary is at 1404 35th Avenue. School catchments change, so always confirm which school serves a specific address with School District 22. Our schools guide explains how.
